Mental Health Services
In Charlotte, NC, the connection between vision loss and mental health is a critical issue. According to 2019 data from the Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance System (BRFSS), 50.8% of individuals who are blind or have low vision in North Carolina experience depression—more than double the rate of those without vision impairment (21.3%).
The impact is even greater among those unable to work due to vision loss, with 67.4% reporting depression. Additionally, individuals with vision loss are more likely to face chronic health conditions, lower income levels, and poorer overall health outcomes.
To address this urgent need, the LionsHEART offers dedicated mental health services, connecting individuals with a professional counselor for support and guidance.
